Gut Health Berry Smoothie Recipe

Prep Time: 5 mins

Cooking Time: 0 mins

Serves: 1-2

Ingredients - Berry Smoothie

  • 190 ml of milk, reduced fat (or a dairy-free alternative)

  • 1 ½ tablespoons of Greek yoghurt (or a dairy-free alternative)

  • 30 g of vanilla (or natural) protein powder

  • 2 teaspoons of flaxseeds (ground)

  • ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon

  • ½ cup (20 g) of baby spinach leaves (optional)

  • ¼ cup (40g) of frozen mixed berries

  • ½ medium banana

Method

  1. Cut the banana into slices and add it into a blender or mixer together with the milk, Greek yoghurt, protein powder and other ingredients.

  2. Blend/mix for around 30 seconds, until smooth and creamy, serve immediately.

Summary

Whilst you can use fresh berries to make this smoothie, using frozen berries can help to create a thicker, colder smoothie without the need for additional ice, plus, frozen berries last longer. You may also need to add a little extra water depending on your preferred thickness

Other tips for enhancing gut health include, adding greens like spinach or kale, which are easily blended and provide extra fibre, or adding oats and other whole grains for more gut-supporting fibre.
